La Botánica

Vegan Boutique Hotel

A Hidden Eden in the Heart

of San Juan

Puerto Rican culture is a beautiful and vibrant collage of textures, rituals, rhythms, and food.

La Botánica is an urban Shangri-La lovingly curated with this thought in mind. You’ll see it in our space, smell and taste it in our foods and drinks, hear it in the rhythms of our featured entertainment.

Our urban eden features a beautiful collection of Puerto Rican contemporary art and eclectic vintage furniture. All of our rooms have terraces and outdoor showers, and are uniquely decorated with Sylvia’s family furniture mixed with one-of-a-kind crafts.

On Friday nights, La Botánica transforms into a “pop-up” restaurant with different chefs and entertainment to match the cuisine. Our hosts and artistic collaborators will make your time with us a rich, vibrant, and unique Puerto Rican experience. Our space reflects our culture.

About our House

La Botánica is an intimate hotel that began as Sylvia’s home

She embarked on a beautiful journey to turn her house into a home for others. As you wander through the house, the art pieces, furniture, and crafts serve as artifacts in La Botánica’s journey.

Our intimate hotel feels like a lively home where artists, friends, and family feel free to gather spontaneously and share the spark of life over wine and food. We welcome our guests to join all our gatherings and get to know the community that makes up our incredible city.

Our Rooms

All of our Rooms are Unique

Because they were all created at different stages of the house’s development, each room has a particular charm and distinct energy. The decor is unique— all of it hand-picked by Sylvia. You will find one of a kind art, family furniture passed down from generation to generation, and other interesting, bespoke pieces made by our team.

The Treehouse Series rooms are on the second floor, built of wood with queen beds. They each have a kitchenette, a balcony with a garden view, and an outdoor shower.

Our Garden Suites are more expansive and can accommodate sleeping arrangements for a third person upon request. Each suites boasts a king-sized bed, full bathroom, and a private terrace with an outdoor kitchenette and an outdoor shower. They open into an enchanting garden.

Vegan Ayurvedic Breakfast

Ayurvedic breakfasts will be served from 9:00-11:00 AM in our lobby and garden.

Our chefs prepare our breakfasts with fresh produce sourced from local farms. We create exciting dishes— many influenced by Caribbean cuisine and recipes from our “abuelitas”. However, the special way we arrange flavors and spices, make our dishes uniquely Ayurvedic.

Ayurvedic cuisine uses warm spices to aid nutrient absorption, and brings together complex flavors and aromas. This means our breakfasts are both intriguing and easily digestible. Through our food, we create nourishing, delicious, and unexpected dishes.

We are excited to share this beautiful knowledge with you!

Coffee & Infusions

In our lobby, you will find our coffee and homemade infusion station at all hours.

We infuse local coffee with cinnamon and cardamom— making the coffee less acidic and more delicious.

We offer brown sugar and honey as sweeteners, as well as a variety of nut milks.

Our herbal tea infusions are designed daily by our staff. They use fresh herbs and spices, sweetened with dried fruits and, occasionally, vegetables like beets or carrots. Exciting, right?

In-Room Mini Bar

Your kitchenette has a small fridge, in which you’ll find a selection of fine, organic, vegan wines carefully selected by Sylvia. We offer sparkling wine, red, white, and rosé.

About

A letter from Sylvia

Dear future guest,

My passion is crafting unique experiences that make you feel the importance of wellness. In one way or another, I have been preparing for this my entire life. I’ve changed careers and interests a few times. I loved everything from my past, but no one thing would fully satisfy me. I went to art school, later trained and worked as a sommelier, and after some incredible twists and swirls, I made it into the movie industry designing movie sets. This led me to restaurant design, and eventually to my first hotel— The Dreamcatcher.

Now, after parting ways with The Dreamcatcher and branching out on my own with La Botánica Hotel and Finca Victoria, I see how everything I explored and did in my life was a key element to what I do now. I am finally and completely fulfilled by what I do. I create experiences to remind you and connect you with the inherent joy in everyday living.

I think we try to find happiness in high-paying jobs, luxurious objects, and complicated vacations. But, the truth is that happiness and joy are easily accessible. You can find them in daily rituals, in being present in your daily life, in places that comfort you, in simple food that nourishes you, and in meaningful relationships.

When I started my journey with Ayurveda, I had no idea what life had in store for me. I just knew that there was more to life than what I found in the productivity grind. As I left that stage of my life in the past, I entered the present. It’s hard to explain. As I deepened into Ayurvedic practices, I had a constant feeling of remembering. The body and soul remembering their natural state— a state of ease and flow.  Through Ayurveda, I discovered that finding joy and harmony in our modern existence is a lot easier than we think. We simply have to go back to basics. Ayurveda and its yoga practices are one with nature, and its natural processes and cycles. Ayurvedic living is simply living in tune with nature. I remembered that we are natural beings meant to coexist with nature.

Once I started to grasp the knowledge of Ayurvedic teachings, all the pieces in my life started to come together beautifully. I kept decorating, building, cooking, and creating experiences. But the way I did this shifted greatly. There was no forcing, no attachment. Everything organically funneled into a wholeness I had yet to experience. My relationships flourished, and the work I did started to change. I no longer needed to change jobs or careers. On the contrary, I wanted to deepen my understanding of the Ayurvedic practice, and share it in the spaces I was creating— through meaningful experiences centered around joy and wellbeing.

To me, La Botánica Hotel and Finca Victoria are so much more than hotels and wellness centers. They are the physical manifestation of a beautiful journey— a journey of remembering, of coming closer to nature, trusting the wisdom it offers, and trusting its beauty and power. This trust, inevitably, inspires us to trust the beauty and power within.

I wish for my spaces to inspire you to trust your journey. And when you visit us, to let go, and experience nature and Ayurveda’s magic as you walk through our house, taste our food, commune in our garden, and remember.

Con Amor,

Sylvia
